In honor of Veterans Day, November 11, the team at the Franklin Historical Museum -- Vice Chair Jan Prentice, Commissioner Randy LaRosa, and Associate Mary O'Leary -- have pulled out all the stops to display a large collection of Franklin-associated uniforms that are anything but...
The range includes Civil War-era Grand Army of the Republic threads as well as a uniform that belonged to Edward L. "Eddie" Grant, who was a Dean grad, Harvard-trained lawyer, Major League Baseball star, and volunteer officer in the World War I American Expeditionary Force. Grant lost his life in 1918 fighting to rescue the Lost Battalion.
Another decorated Vet who lost his life is Sgt. Pirelli (whose uniform is shown above).
Every branch of the service is represented in the display and, in addition, a World War II vintage portable reed organ of the type used to provide religious services in the field or on shipboard, is also on display.
A special opening reception is being held at 9:15 on Thursday, Nov. 6, immediately after the commemoration for World War I serviceman, Jay Stone Davis on the Town Common. Light food and coffee will be available.
The display will also continue during regular museum hours, Saturdays from 10-1 and Sundays from 1-4 through Sunday, Nov. 23.
