Assailed by Critics, AG Campbell Plans Visit to Franklin Pride on Saturday

Satuday's Pride on the Franklin Town Common runs from noon to 4 pm and, according to her spokesperson, will be highlighted by a visit at 1 pm by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell.

In recent days two ballot measures slated for the November election were disqualified due to the summary language created for them by Campbell's Office. One was a measure to lower the state income tax, the other would have put in place state rent control.

Campbell was the first Black woman to qualify for ballot access for statewide office in Massachusetts. Winning the Democratic Party's nomination with a sizable victory in the Democratic primary, Campbell won the general election by a large margin. In January 2023, she was sworn in as attorney general, becoming the first Black woman to hold the office and only the second Black person to hold it, preceded by Edward Brooke. She had previously been a member of the Boston City Council.
