On December 23, Anthony “Tony” Mario Colace, 69, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1956, but was a lifelong resident of Franklin and a proud graduate of the Franklin High School, Class of 1974.
Tony made many friends throughout his 37 year career at the Franklin DPW, as well through his work as a security guard for Live Nation at various music venues throughout Massachusetts, including the Xfinity Center (Great Woods), the House of Blues, Fenway Park, Gillette Stadium, and TD Garden. He was also a security guard for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. He loved getting his friends and family into their favorite shows and was well loved and known for his big heart and easy going nature. Tony was always quick with a laugh and a smile.
He loved hunting and fishing with his Uncle Gene, Uncle Louie and his cousin, Tony Arcaro, and he loved a night at the casino and his Friday night poker games with friends and family. He also enjoyed traveling & browsing in antique shops. He was a funcle. Known affectionately as “Cocoa” to family, Tony was everyone’s favorite uncle. Family and friends would describe him as tough on the outside, but soft on the inside with a heart of gold. He was always kind and never one for commotion. He preferred peace and would give you the shirt off of his back.
Anthony was predeceased by his father, Antonio Colace; his mother, Florence (Arcaro) Colace; his nephew, Craig Colace, and his mother-in-law Mary (Smedile) Blaney.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea Ballotta; his brother, Angelo Colace, and his wife, Nancy; his stepdaughter, Emily; his father-in-law, Rick Blaney; his sister-in-law, Amy Blaney; his brother-in-law, Eric Blaney, and his wife, Lori; as well as his nieces, nephews, and many, many cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 12-2 on Sunday, January 4th, at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. with Words of Remembrance at 2pm.
Tony will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
