Peck Street Attic Blaze Erupts

Shortly after 9:30 Wednesday night, New England Fire News reported a chimney and attic fire at 198 Peck Street, a 2.5 story colonial-style home built in 1996, according to assessor department records.

A long interval of sirens heralded the arrival of dozens of vehicles and pieces of fire apparatus, including the Tower Unit which was quickly set up across the front of the lot to assist firefighters in gaining access to the roof areas. Police also blocked off the road form Park Street to King Street.

On scene chainsaws could be heard as crews cut holes in the roof to gain better access to the fire itself while other firefighters scoured the interior for possible hot spots.

Units from Norfolk also responded. As of about 10:30 PM there did not appear to be anyone injured.
