Janet Caton, 102

Janet Caton, 102, of Franklin, formerly of Upton, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester. She was born and raised in Fitchburg, MA, the eldest of 4 sisters. She met her husband Charles Caton as students at Becker College in Worcester. They married and moved to Upton, where they raised their family and made a full life for themselves. Janet worked at the Upton Hat Factory as well as Upton Town Hall in several roles over many years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hosting and just being part of many holiday dinners and simple suppers. She liked playing cards, working complicated puzzles, and traveling to discover new places with family and friends. She was an amazing knitter, her signature fisherman’s knit pattern is prized. She made many sweaters and mittens and for years knit daily. In her later years she made bagfuls of beautiful hats for area newborns.

Janet leaves behind her daughters Harriett Fougere and husband Ken of Upton, Alice Caton of Williamstown, and Linda Morgan of Northampton as well as grandchildren Pam Gilday and her children Michael and Holly; Barry Fougere and wife Gretchen and their children Madeleine and Camille; Cynthia Fougere and life partner Jeffrey Teachout; Michelle Bridge and husband Roy and their children Laura Kline and Alexandra Winnicki, her husband John and their children Thomas, Charlotte, and Hudson; Matthew Impastato and wife Carla Roddy and their children Lillian and Parker; Catherine Keating and wife Barbara Reese Keating and their children Erin, Ryan, and Nathan; Amy Morgan-Foster and husband Jason and their children Greta and Aden; and Joanne Morgan and wife Tina Marini. Janet also leaves her sister, Ellie. Janet was predeceased by her loving husband Charles and by sisters Rosalie and Leona as well as by many friends and family.

Janet lived a full and good life and was a cherished person. She will be very missed and well-remembered by all who knew and loved her and most especially by her family.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 1, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 151 Mendon St., Upton. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.

Calling hours at the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton, are Friday, September 30, from 5 to 7 P.M.
