What next? It’s a question for the ages these days – but especially for students who are completing college, recently graduated, or considering graduate school. That’s even more true if, as implied in the title of a recent campus event at University of Massachusetts – Amherst, you want to change the world.

“Law, Policy, Non-Profits: How will you change the world?” – an event intended to promote the school’s new public policy major, featured a four-person alumni panel, that included Franklin Town Councilor Cobi Frongillo.

The event was hosted by UMass Pre-Law, the School of Public Policy and Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group (MassPIRG), the large politically active non-profit started originally with the encouragement of Ralph Nader.

According to an article by Mia Blue in the Daily Collegian, the campus news outlet, when it comes to getting help and references, Frongillo told the audience “just don’t be afraid, people want to help.”

Frongillo, a two-term councilor, is currently a Research Analyst with the Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

According to the Daily Collegian, Frongillo also recommended internships as a good way to get acquainted with organizations and explore opportunities. He also stressed the value placed in many organizations on ‘people who understand data.’
