Josephine (D'Amelio) Coughlin Age 98, of Brighton, MA, died peacefully at her home in the loving hands of her children, Sunday, January 8, 2023, following a short period of failing health. Beloved wife of the late Gerald Coughlin (1928 – 2022) of Brighton, MA, married for 63 cherished years. Josephine was born in Norwood, MA, March 31, 1924, one of eight children, born to Alfred D'Amelio (1894 – 1987) originally from Abruzzi, Italy, and Teresa (Fontana) D'Amelio (1898 – 1982) originally from Foggia, Italy, and then Franklin, MA.

She was raised in Franklin, MA, amongst many relatives. She was a 1941 graduate of Franklin High School. In her younger years, she enjoyed going to the beach, dancing, big band music, and especially loved the saxophone. One of her cherished memories was a cross-county road trip along Route 66 to California with friends. She later met her husband at Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, MA.

In 1959, she married and started a family in Brighton. Josephine was a homemaker and raised her children. She later worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the Stat and chemistry lab till she retired. She loved to travel, enjoyed weekend trips with her family, explored New England, and spent the summers on Prince Edward Island at the house her husband built on his father's farm. She enjoyed going back to Franklin for Sunday family gatherings and dinners, and holiday dinners with her in-laws.

She was the devoted mother of Douglas Coughlin of Brighton, and Debra (Coughlin) Falco and husband, James of Stoughton; cherished grandmother of Gina (Falco) Bower and husband, John of Charlotte, NC, Natalie Falco and husband, Geoff Curtis of West Roxbury, Julia Falco and fiancé, Peyton Bock of Newton; and great-grandmother of Duke and Blair Bower and Aria and Lydia Curtis. She is survived by her brother, Anthony and wife, Jane (Bardol) D'Amelio of Franklin; and sister-in-law, Lois (Wyllie) D'Amelio of Falmouth; also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends all whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary (D'Amelio) and her husband, Louie Ferioli of Franklin, Eleanor (D'Amelio) and husband, Michael DiBenedetto of Fitchburg, Gloria (D'Amelio) and husband, Joseph Cashorelli of Franklin, and Jeanne D'Amelio of Franklin; and brothers, Joseph and wife, Dot (Kaufman) D'Amelio of St. Petersburg, FL, Alfred D'Amelio of Franklin; also her nephews, Anthony D'Amelio of Franklin, and Paul DiBenedetto of Fitchburg. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Visiting Hours on Thursday, January 19, from 10 AM-12 PM at the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Avenue, BRIGHTON, followed by a Service at 12 PM. Interment will follow at a later date at Bourne National Cemetery.
