Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Barbieri confirmed that there was a structure fire on Hancock Road Tuesday morning. "We were dispatched to 79 Hancock Road this morning at 6:47am for a reported fire," he wrote. "The crews were able to contain the fire quickly and hold it to the area or origin. We were assisted on scene by Norfolk Fire and Medway Fire. A Wrentham ambulance did respond for a separate medical emergency at the scene. A Bellingham Engine provided station coverage. Foxborough Fire assisted with an additional call in town during this incident," he noted.
At about the time that crews were clearing up damage from a burst pipe Saturday morning at the Library, another, larger pipe burst at the Franklin Senior Center. The facility is closed with no definite date yet for reopening, though efforts are being made to get the kitchen in service for food deliveries. The image above shows multiple fans deployed Tuesday afternoon, still trying to dry the flood waters. Frozen pipes are the bane of municipal buildings in Franklin, with numerous instances of serious damage over the years.
A Boston25 TV news segment this week on potholes focused on several subjects, including unaccepted roads in Worcester and many other communities that never get fixed. Then a segment on Franklin showed a crew repairing a pothole on a town street. DPW Director Robert "Brutus" Cantoreggi was interviewed on the subject of how potholes are created and repaired and also noted that the recent "deep freeze" does not appear to have done much damage to area roads because there was little moisture on the roads at the time.
