Trained

The Norfolk County Technical Rescue Team travelled to Franklin on Thursday for a confined space drill. To start this drill the team reviewed equipment with some of the newer members. After, the team was dispatched to the Franklin Public Works for a confined space rescue.

The drill scenario was for a HAZMAT incident with multiple missing workers last known to be in a confined space.

In addition to our typical extrication and rescue, our Medical Specialists were heavily involved in patient care along with our team doctor Dr. Valkanas. As each worker was extricated they were treated for suspension trauma and multiple other injuries based on each scenario.

The photos were posted by Franklin Fire Department, which noted that Members of the Franklin Fire Department are part of this team.

The Norfolk Tech Rescue Team provides technical services to Norfolk County including – High Angle, Low Angle, Confined Space, Trench and Structural Collapse rescue. It is one of several teams in the state operating loosely under the guidance of Massachusetts Association of Technical Rescue Specialists (MATRS), a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to coordinate Technical Rescue services statewide.

Frozen (and Thawed)

Freeze-damaged pipes are on the mend at the Senior Center. The Town posted the following update: Due to damage caused by a significant leak in the sprinkler system on Saturday, February 4th, 2023, the Franklin Senior Center will remain closed indefinitely to continue restoration of the facility, specifically the main lobby, library and front desk, according to a town posting. Also, small areas in other rooms. Clean up crews, engineers, and restoration specialist have all been on site for two weeks. Significant progress has been made. The Town anticipates next week will see more progress.

However, the Common Grounds Cafe and Multi-purpose room will be reopening on Monday, February 27, 2023! Entering the facility will not be done through the main lobby, but through the side doors to the room. Staff are working out the complete logistics and will have more information next week! The Town looks forward to bringing back home cooked meals for breakfast and lunch on the 27th -- and, of course, plenty of coffee for everyone!

We thank the entire community for their patience during this difficult time. A more improved and better Senior Center awaits!

Hammered, Nailed, and Wired.

The Franklin Crossing condominium complex, part of which was destroyed by a three-alarm fire in May of 2021 is well along in its rebuilding. Building inspector Gus Brown has not heard of a finish date but says inspections are ongoing as the work progresses.

Safety Last

The Harold Lloyd silent film of that title, exactly 100 years old, proved its durability at the Historical Museum Saturday morning, keeping an initially skeptical crowd laughing and on the edge of their seats for its 75-minute duration. Lloyd returns next Saturday, Feb. 28 in The Freshman.
