The story of Ben Franklin’s book donation is well known. Less well known is the story of the local visionaries and philanthropists that built upon his donation under the banner of the Franklin Library Association. Their story and that of the library and the town it has distinguished is told in a new book, The Franklin Library Association: Building the Future of the Nation’s First Public Library 1858-2022. The book has more than 160 pages and many full color illustrations.
It is full of fascinating characters and slices of life over more than 200 years, including the eventful years of the current century! The Franklin Library Association donated copies of the book to the Friends as an opportunity to raise money for its programs. Copies make great gifts and are perfect for anyone who loves books, libraries, and local history.
Copies of the book are available now with a suggested donation of $15 or more to the Friends of the Franklin Library. Interested in a copy? Reach out to the Friends of the Franklin Library at fofl02038@gmail.com.
