Tri-County Voc Scores Funds for Food Truck

Tri-County Regional Vocational-Technical School was recently awarded a Capital Skills grant for $499,999 for Culinary Arts through the State’s Executive Office of Education. So, Tri-County is the proud new owner of a food truck and with the remaining funds plans to buy a great deal of new equipment.

The school also applied for the grant program last year for the same goal, but did not make the cut. They time they were more fortunate.

Tri-County will hold a competition to name the food truck. The graphic communications students will compete to come up with the design for the truck. The retrofitting is planned to be completed by the fall.

The awards were part of the 8th year of the Skills Capital Grant Program and the second round of grants for Fiscal Year 2023 Round 1 Grant Recipients

Other area grant recipients included:

Bellingham High School, Bellingham - $150,000, Manufacturing/Healthcare - Funding will provide technology and equipment to support Bellingham High School’s Manufacturing Innovation Pathway and Healthcare and Social Assistance Innovation Pathway.

Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional High School, Upton - $1,250,000, Skilled Trades - Funding will provide Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional High School technology and equipment to support modernizing the Construction Technology programs to meet regional employer demand for carpenters, electricians, and electronics technicians.

The Skills Capital Grant Program awards grants for the purchase and installation of equipment to support vocational and technical training. These equipment upgrades aim to expand career technical education and training programs that are aligned to regional economic and workforce development priorities for in-demand industries, providing students training for career opportunities in high-skill, high-demand industry sectors.

Since 2015, 538 Skills Capital Grants totaling $204 million have been awarded to different schools and educational institutions across the Commonwealth, with many organizations receiving multiple grants over the years.
