Silent Saturday "II" Features more Harold Lloyd Mayhem

Image

By popular demand, Silent Saturday returns to the Franklin Historical museum for two more events. The “lost art” of silent film comedies combine the zaniness and fast pace of TikTok with a lot of traditional Hollywood edge-of-your-seat gratification. Our two shows are timed to bookend school vacation for families interested in an all-ages activity at the Franklin Historical Museum, 80 West Central Street, parking available, as marked, around the building.

On Saturday, April 15

High and Dizzy (1920), a warm-up for Safety Last,(which we showed in February) features a fast pace and all kinds of ‘High-jinks’ amidst a busy city downtown. The museum is open from 10-1 (and regular visitors are still welcome). The showing starts at 11 AM and lasts about 30 minutes). Look for an additional short (to be announced). As ALWAYS, events at the Franklin Historical Museum are FREE

On Saturday, April 22

Speedy (1928), the last silent picture released by comic genius Harold Lloyd, packs as many great gags per minute as any Lloyd film, (and one of his sweetest love stories). The film is notable for its extensive location shooting in New York City. The sequences shot at Coney Island, with some wonderfully hair-raising (and understandably obsolete) rides, are gorgeous and historically valuable. There are also lengthy (and hilarious) scenes with Babe Ruth playing himself – and even a brief cameo by Lou Gehrig. The museum is open from 10-1 (and regular visitors are still welcome). The showing starts at 11 AM and lasts about 90 minutes). As ALWAYS, events at the Franklin Historical Museum are FREE
