Paul Anthony D'Errico, 75

Paul Anthony D'Errico, 75, of Mt. Washington, KY, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Sanders Ridge Health Campus.

Paul was born in Milford, MA on April 21, 1948, but was a native of Franklin, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orlando and Theresa D'Errico; along with a brother, John D'Errico. Paul is survived by four brothers, Rocco, Robert, Michael, and Tony D'Errico; many Nephews and Nieces, as well as his Caregivers, Annie and Mark McKay of several years.

Paul attended 2 grammar schools: Four Corners for grades 1-4 and Theron Metcalf for grades 5-8. He went to Franklin High School and went on to get his BS going the first two years at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA, and then transferred to Northeastern University also in Boston, MA.

One of his long-time friends, Ernie walked to school with Paul every day and attended school with him for those 12 years and also attended the first two years of College with Paul. He was like another son for Paul's parents, as he attended dinner with them many times.

After Paul graduated from College in 1970, he got his Pilots license. He met his friend Billy and together they would rent a plane to fly to and from one of the northeastern city's restaurants to indulge in fresh fish. That was something he loved. He also flew to other places with Billy and Billy's wife. His time flying was what he really loved! He loved the Space Age...Airplanes, Rockets...you name it, he loved anything that flew in the air.

Starting at the age of 50 years old and through the next 25 years, he suffered from many forms of cancers (7 total), as well as 7 cancerous areas on his body that were surgically removed. On May 1, 2007, and December 5, 2018, he underwent 2 Bone Marrow Transplants.

One of Paul's Co-workers, Dave for 40 plus years, wrote that Paul was an exceptionally competent Mechanical Engineer who specialized in the design of thermodynamic and fluid systems in electric generating facilities. He perfected his trade at Stone & Webster in Boston and brought that expertise to the Denver, CO office where he transferred to in 1977, at the age of 29 years. For about 40 years, he led the Colorado Thermodynamics Team at S&W and then Shaw.

After retiring in 2016, he strongly supported the established schedule of monthly get-togethers with S&W colleagues ("geezers") for breakfast, a tradition that still continues today. We got to attend about 5 of them after his last BMT in between of him being in and out of the hospital.

He also loved going to Yellowstone every two years. He went there several times...I believe it was close to 20 times in total that he had gone. That was a week-long vacation that he loved and at times, invited others to go with him to enjoy the beauty that the National Park provided. Every day for years, he would watch the 'Old Faithful' Geyser on his computer. He would see it live. He looked forward to that to energize his morning.

Paul had attended Calvary South Denver Church (a Calvary Chapel Church) for about 20 years up until November 2018, just before his second BMT. He watched the Sunday services online on his phone. In the fall of 2021, he was able to attend 2 of the Saturday morning Men's Prayer and Breakfast. These Saturday mornings at Calvary were important to him, as well as the Bible Study that he also attended.

One thing that Paul loved was taking a drive to the Mountains. We did that for the last time in early November 2021. He was so grateful to be able to see the scenery as if it were his first time seeing it.

Paul also helped out the Lakota Indian Tribe starting in the early 2000's. He went to South Dakota several times a year...mainly monthly to take supplies for the Tribal Leader, Chug, and his wife, Karen to give to the tribe. He had a heart for the people and the children. Once a month, he and another friend from church, Manny would attend a church in downtown Denver that was of Indian worship. He had met many people in his life of different Faiths. He was always interested in learning more about anything. Paul was a Man with a lot of knowledge. He left a Legacy for us all to enjoy with the many memories of his life.

On June 2, 2023 there will be a Celebration of Life at the First Baptist Church from 1:00 - 1:30 in Mount Washington located at 320 N Bardstown Rd, Mount Washington, KY 40047.
