A life well lived! Sylvia (Sid) Mason Riley passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2023 at 85 years young. She grew up in Leominster MA with parents Claude and Florence Mason; siblings George, Dot, Ruby, Helen, and Peggy and she lived her adult life in Brooklyn NY, Franklin, Millis, and West Dennis MA. Silvia was a truly wonderful woman with a friendly smile and conversation for everyone. Her sarcastic humor was always on point and brought laughter to us all. As an avid craftswoman, she filled her homes with warm beautiful paintings, furniture, stenciling, needlepoint, crochet, knitting, and more. Her Irish knit sweaters and afghans were amazing and she probably knit a thousand hats for children losing their hair to chemo in Boston hospitals. Sylvia was also a loving teacher in Franklin, Millis, and mostly Medway where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year for the state of Massachusetts. She was also an accomplished swimmer and was the first female to pass the State of Maine's rigorous ocean lifeguarding requirements. If the sun was out, she was out, both in Millis and on The Cape where she adored a stretch of beach where the Swan River meets the Sea in West Dennis. She's survived by her husband, Bryan; her three children, Scott, Jim, and Kelly Riley; and her sisters Peggy Oliver and Helen O'Connor who will all miss and love her dearly. Services will be held at New Pond Village, 180 Main St., Walpole, MA 02081, 2-4pm, August 12th. Condolences can be sent to James Bryan Riley at 170 Main St., Room H115, Walpole, MA 02081.
