Stephen L. Mann, 85, of Kennebunk, formerly of Norfolk, and Franklin passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, with his family at his side, following a long illness. Stephen’s passing came just two weeks after celebrating his 35th anniversary with his beloved Margie.

Stephen was born March 27, 1938, in Milford, MA, the son of Albert E. and Ruth I. (Kirkman) Mann. He was a graduate of Colgate University. In the middle of his studies there, he served four years with the US Coast Guard, and upon his discharge, kept his Class of 1960 affiliation when he completed his degree requirements in 1964.

He was employed with Buckley & Mann Inc, a textile manufacturer of pile and safety products, until the company was sold in 1992. He then joined Draper Knitting Company until his retirement in 2003.

He married Marjorie (Margie) Catto in 1988, and together created a blended family with strong ties.

In his youth, he enjoyed tent camping with the Boy Scouts, and that love continued with his own family as an adult. He then discovered motor home camping, and a new passion was born. Together with Marjorie, he travelled the entire continental US, visiting every state and Alaska, usually with extended family in tow.
This passion led Stephen to join Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) where he became an active member, holding office in several chapters and serving as national vice president.

He was an avid bike rider and kayaker and carried them with him on all his travels. That bright red kayak on the car could be spotted a mile away!

Steve was a gifted singer and guitarist and shared his passion for music with family and friends. Whether at an FMCA gathering or at a campfire in Rebecca’s back yard, he led the singing! “You Are My Sunshine” was a family favorite. He even created a song to call Gus the cat to the great amusement of all!

The family remembers how much Steve enjoyed lobsters – lobster rolls or fresh boiled with butter – it was one of his favorite meals, probably because he so often had it in the company of people he loved.

Stephen is predeceased by his granddaughter Stephanie Munro, and brother Richard D. Mann.

Survivors include his loving wife Marjorie Ellen (Catto) Mann of Kennebunk, children Stephen M. Mann and his wife Michele of Milford, DE, Michelle A. Mann and her husband David Rupert of Merritt Island, FL, Elizabeth G. Mann and her husband Keith Bruce of Charlestown, RI, Candace P. Jodice and her husband Anthony of Narragansett, RI. His bonus children include Mary Ellen Fifield and her husband Lawrence of Buxton, ME, Adam B Catto Jr. and his wife Kristen and Edward A. Catto both of Gloucester, MA, Rebecca A. Couturier of Waterboro, ME, and Laurie E. Chandler and her husband Jon of Peru, ME. And his Sister-in-law, Lois Mann of Hingham, MA, 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
