Albert C. Nelson, 89, of Woonsocket and formerly of Cumberland, RI and Franklin, MA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Monday, July 31, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (LaFontaine) Nelson and had been happily married for the past 68 years. Albert was born in Upton, MA, and was the son of the late George and Valida (Demers) Nelson. Albert was an army veteran of the Korean War. He had been a supervisor for the Axton-Cross Chemical Company, formerly located in Holliston, MA and then worked for George Mann and Univar in Providence, RI. Albert enjoyed going to the Casino, playing cards, slot machines, and Bingo. He was an avid gardener throughout most of his life and always loved a good puzzle. But what he loved most of all was the time he spent with his beloved wife and family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his six children, Anne Metcalf of North Carolina, Cheryl Nelson of Foster, RI, Louise Fitzgerald and husband William of Mendon, MA, Albert Nelson and his wife Mary Evelyn of Foster, RI, Theresa Briggs of Blackstone, MA, and Lisa Chartier and her husband Bruce of Uxbridge, MA. He also leaves his sister, Winona Bouthiette of Upton, MA, four grandchildren, Kara Briggs, Abagail, Ian, and Connor Chartier, four step-grandchildren, Kathryn Clark, Angela Schmidt, Ray Metcalf Jr., and Joshua Briggs; and one step great-grandchild, Stephen Schmidt. He was the brother of the late Gerald Demers, William Demers, Rena Nelson, and Tina Thornhill.
The funeral will be held Friday, August 4,2023 at 9:00 AM from the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
Visiting hours are on Thursday, August 3rd from 4:00-7:00 PM in the O’Neill Funeral Home.
