Wednesday was CPR Day for About a Dozen Residents

Wednesday afternoon, nearly a dozen residents crowded into a training room at the Franklin Fire Headquarters on West Central Street to participate in a free CPR training class put on by Public Health Nurse Alisha Sullivan (shown above), Franklin Fire Department EMS Captain Laurie Kaye, and Epidemiologist Cassie Montiero.

The one hour class emphasized CPR without mouth contact (though those who choose to use that technique in an emergency can do so) aka "Hands Only CPR" and began with practical information on how to distinguish between a heart attack and cardiac arrest, techniques for children and adults, the use of a defibrillator and more.

Kaye said the course will be repeated again in the near future and may be supplemented by a "stop the bleed" class as well.

At the request of those in attendance, participants also got a brief training in the Heimlich maneuver

Above, Alisha Sullivan demonstrates CPR, while teaming with Laurie Kaye, who is showing how to simultaneously initiate the use of a defibrillator.
