The Senate stuck to municipal matters Monday, in a very brief session, including passage of a local bill to validate the votes taken at a town meeting in Blandford. Under the bill, the Hampden County town (population around 1,200) would have the results of its June 2022 town meeting confirmed "to the same extent as if the town had complied with all statutory requirements for posting a warrant for the meeting." Senators also shipped measures to Gov. Maura Healey's desk that would extend employment for firefighters and a police chief in two Berkshire County towns. The Senate meets next on Thursday morning as an extended summer break from large-scale lawmaking continues.
The only senators in attendance were Sen. Brownsberger of Belmont presiding. Sen. Fattman of Sutton was also present, joined on the floor by his four children. (Earlier photo, above, shows Fattman with one of his children on Beacon Hill).
Last week a House session was better attended but lasted only minutes.
