Honoring and Remembering 9/11 in Franklin

Image

In remembrance of 9/11 there was an annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 9 AM on Monday at the Franklin Senior Center. Retired New York City Police Sergeant, and Franklin native, Paul Faenza was the planned keynote speaker. Faenza was involved in 9/11 and the shoes he wore, covered in dust from the World Trade Center, are on display at the Franklin Historical Museum.

In addition, over the weekend, volunteers at the Franklin Elks on Pond Street, placed more than 2900 American flags in remembrance of those killed in the attacks.

Mark Ellis, the current "grand exalted ruler" of the Lodge, said a predecessor of his, Sharon St. Hilaire, started the tradition in the wake of the attacks and it has been a tradition continued and supported over the years by the 800+ members in town, most recently under the leadership of Rich Gately.
