Benches Renewed

Several memorial benches at the Franklin Library and on the Common were recently cleaned and treated by the Franklin DPW to keep them comfortable and clean and to ensure long life. Among the benches at the library are those dedicated in memory of Maybelle Pond, Michael Joseph Doherty, and Walter F. and Lilyan K Feeley as well as those sponsored by the Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation and Shine Construction, Inc.

Franklin Post Office Not Going Anywhere

While you may have heard that the Medway Post Office on Route 109 closed abruptly a few weeks ago, with no notice to the public, nothing similar is in the cards for Franklin, according to Steve Doherty, Strategic Communications Specialist, United States Postal Service, Atlantic Area. “The Post Office in Franklin is owned by the Postal Service and there are no plans to redevelop that property,” he said. In contrast, “Our lease at the Medway Post Office expired on Aug. 31. We are currently looking for alternate site in Medway.”

Our Lady of Fatima Shrine Fall Bazaar

A communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Shrine tells us the Xaverian Missionaries 75th Anniversary Celebration Fall Bazaar is in the offing. The Bazaar will be held in the Shrine Hall and will have over a dozen vendors, baked goods, pumpkins, rummage sale, and more. It all happens October 22, 2023 from 11:00AM - 4:00PM

The popular Cruise Night at Patriot Place last Thursday attracted hundreds of cars, thousands of spectators, and one very large vintage ladder truck from Franklin. Friends of the Poor Walk on Saturday!

Just a reminder from the organizers … St. Mary Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Conference is sponsoring its annual fund raiser on Saturday, September 30, 9:00 am to 11:00 am, on Franklin’s Town Common. Registration opens at 8:30 am. The Walk begins with a Blessing for the Walk at 9:00 am. Participants can collect donations and walk with us. Additionally, donations are accepted online at https://www.fopwalk.org/eventlisting/eventdetail/?eventid=2895
All money raised will stay in Franklin to assist those in need.

Old Appliance Rebates `Up in the Air’

Mass Save has made recycling old refrigerators or freezers easy. In fact, they claim to have recycled more than 75,000 of them in the last six years, doling out checks to those who recycle in the process. But, at the moment, the program has been suspended because, according to the Mass Save web site, the vendor started issuing bad checks and so far, the matter remains unresolved.
