Thursday, Sept. 28, the Franklin Zoning Board of Appeals will be given a big ask. Union Crossing Realty Trust is coming before the board shortly after 7 pm, regard 380 King Street (Map 303, Lot 042) which is currently part of the Commercial II Zoning District.
According to the Town Code, Commerical II is intended primarily for office, retail, service, trade, restaurant, and other commercial uses and limited industrial uses in a suburban commercial environment. Single-family and two-family residential uses may also be permitted, which would seem to be a high bar to overcome for approving of such a large residential structure.
The underlying land has been owned since the late 1980s by a trust of the Marguerite family, a very active developer in town in the 1980s and 1990s. Currently there are eating establishments on either side of the site for the proposed development.
