One of the factors that slowed the vote count on Tuesday at the high school was the number of write-ins...One of the results of the write-ins was a win for Kimberly Mu-Chow, who will fill a previously uncontested and therefor unfilled Board of Health seat.
Mu-Chow is a retired Director of Pharmacy practicing in hospitals and home infusion companies. "I was required to comply with the JCAHO guidelines where the hospital was surveyed on a regular basis,"she noted.
Mu-Chow is the current Chair of the Greater Milford Community Health Network Area 6 also known as CHNA 6. (There are 27 CHNAs across Massachusetts). "We work closely with Milford Regional Medical Center (MRMC) to develop a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) for 13 communities in Worcester and Norfolk Counties. Our priority areas include mental health/substance use, food insecurity, and homelessness. We award grants to non-profit organizations to improve community health in our service area," Mu-Chow explained.
Mu-Chow is also a member of MRMC’s Community Benefits Leadership Team and Advisory Group and works with the hospital to gather information for the community health assessment and develop their priority areas.
Mu-Chow had heard that the Board of Health had two openings and that only one incumbent was running for reelection. Health Director Cathleen Liberty invited her to a BOH meeting in October and after attending the meeting, "I felt that my skills could be utilized on the board," she explained.
Then it was a matter of getting the word out to voters by word of mouth. Mu-Chow said she mostly campaigned at the polls on Tuesday, talking to voters then helping them to get to know her better.
And now, fortunately, Franklin has a fully staffed Board of Health.
