Small Business Saturday is also a marketing initiative created and promoted by the American Express credit card brand to encourage holiday shopping on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Small Business Saturday comes to Franklin (and everywhere else) on November 25th this year. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is encouraging all Massachusetts residents to get out and support the businesses in their communities during this holiday shopping season and throughout the year.
Small Business Saturday is an annual event that celebrates small businesses and encourages consumers to shop locally during the kickoff of the holiday shopping season. Falling annually on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday is the perfect day for consumers to shop local and support the small businesses that are essential to their communities.
"There is no better place to shop and dine than a Massachusetts small business," said NFIB Massachusetts State Director Christopher Carlozzi. "Main Street shops and restaurants are still struggling from the impact of labor shortages, supply chain issues, and inflation. Shopping local throughout the year not only helps keep our friends and neighbors employed, but also helps keep our downtowns and communities thriving.”
Small Business Saturday has been held the weekend after Thanksgiving since it was created eleven years ago following the 2009 recession. The event gained in popularity and in 2022 Americans spent $17.9 billion on Small Business Saturday, according to a survey facilitated by NFIB.
According to a recent Small Business Economic Trends (SBET) survey by NFIB, small businesses are not feeling optimistic in the current economic environment, with 22 percent reporting inflation as their single most important problem.[1]
