Elizabeth "Betty" Slaney, age 82, of Franklin, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 25, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Frederick W. Slaney for 61 years; mom to four children and adored grammy to five grandchildren. Born in Attleboro, MA on May 23, 1941, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Essman) Moriarty.

Betty was a graduate of Wrentham High School. She was a homemaker, faithful Catholic and raised her four children in Franklin, MA. Once her children were grown, Betty dedicated herself to charitable works and traveled to Jamaica and Haiti to help the underserved communities. She was an advocate for Pro-life organizations, Missionaries of the Poor, was chair of the fundraising committee for the Parisot Foundation and worked in Prison Ministry for over 45 years. She was very active within several churches including St. Mary's Franklin, MA, St. Mary's Wrentham, MA and St. Brendan, Bellingham, MA. We often referred to her as Saint Elizabeth!

Betty was a devoted wife, mom, and grandmother. Her sole purpose in life was to serve others in any way she could. Her greatest joy was seeing her grandchildren compete in their various sports across New England and sharing childcare duties with their parents. She was caring, loving and always available to lend a hand. She seldom missed a game or school event and would always babysit when we were in a pinch. Mom was an incredible baker and would often stay up for hours past midnight to make brownies, chocolate chip cookies or a cake, not only for her own children, but for their friends and teammates. We would jokingly tell her that her confections were now famous across the U.S. after baking for several college students throughout New England and Washington, DC.

Betty is survived by her husband, Frederick; her four children, William Slaney and his wife, Alyson of Cumberland, Elizabeth (Betty) and her husband, Joe Rico of Wrentham, Robert Slaney of Foxboro and Mary Slaney of Framingham; and her five grandchildren, Meghan Rico, Joseph Rico, Joshua Slaney, Ryan Slaney and Cassandra Slaney.

Betty was predeceased by her siblings, the late Richard Moriarty, Mary Pacuk, Robert Moriarty, William Moriarty and Eleanor Lewicki.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visitation on Thursday, November 30, from 4 to 7 PM, in the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South Street, WRENTHAM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 1, at 10:30 AM, at St. Mary's Parish, 130 South Street, Wrentham, MA. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 172 Beaver Street, Franklin, MA.
