“Team Maggie” Heads to the Boston Marathon

With some deep Franklin connections, Team Maggie is bound for the Boston Marathon this year, with a bigger goal than “just” winning...

Maggie Pellegri explains that she was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 9, back in 2012 and since then she has been involved with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the “Team Maggie” that she created. Team Maggie meant that she walked the Marathon route with her supporters through 2019, an experience that “gave me the strongest community surrounding my Type I.”

At that point, Maggie took a hiatus to enroll in the University of Georgia, noted for its support of students with Type I. There she became “Vice President of Dawgs” for Diabetes. That gave her a role in leading campus tours for prospective students “We were able to connect with younger students by showing them glimpses into the supportive T1D community and giving them and their parents a sense of security for their next step in college,” she wrote.

Having graduated in 2023, one of her next steps has been jumping into the JDRF community again, earning a spot as a runner on the JDRF team to run in the 2024 Marathon, and, she hopes reaching her qualifying funding goal.

Maggie, daughter of Michael Pellegri and granddaughter of Ronnie Pellegri and former Town Clerk Debbie Pellegri (now serving on the Town Council), is looking forward to the fundraising and running challenges and hopes residents will consider chipping in.
