Hunger a Focus of Remington Student Project

Image

8th-grade students in Franklin have been working on Civics Action Projects, where they have the opportunity to research an issue and brainstorm ways to make positive change in the community. A group from Remington Middle School choose to focus on hunger and food insecurity, according to Remington Teacher, Emily Ambrose. After working through several steps of the project like researching root causes, interviewing stakeholders, and brainstorming ways to make change, the group - Carter Ballogg, Aidan Clark, Teddy Gupka, Seny Ngom, and Jacob Wood decided to try a food drive at RMS. With the support of Remington PCC Chair Amy Cardia, the Franklin Food Pantry, and Science teacher Emily Laliberte they organize a cereal and oatmeal drive. Their goal was 100 boxes but with their leadership skills and the donations from Remington students and staff, they far exceeded this goal with a total of over 200 items collected. We are proud of their determination and commitment to helping our community.
