Mary Theresa( Zucks) Hick, 85 of Franklin died peacefully July 1 at Benchmark Senior Living at Forge Hill in Franklin following a long illness. She was the wife of Edward B. Hick for the past 55 years.

Born in White Plains, New York, November 9,1938, the daughter of the late Anaufrey and Mary T. (Kiernan) Zucks, Mrs. Hick was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist Elementary and High School.

She also graduated from Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York and in 2003 she received her B.S. in Business Management, Summa Cum Laude, from Suffolk University in Franklin. Her family said this was one of her proudest achievements.

While at Suffolk, she was elected to “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities in 2002.

Mary was a systems analyst for General Foods Corp in New York prior to moving to New England. After relocating, she was the Franklin Correspondent for the Country Gazette newspaper in its early years. At the time of her death, she was a publist for local non-profit originations.

Her hobbies were music, reading, traveling, photography and cooking. Her family said she enjoyed all social gatherings, big and small, but especially those celebrating family milestones. They said she’ll be remembered for volunteering as well as for her organizational skills and attention to details.

Mary and her husband visited most of the Caribbean islands, many foreign countries, most of the U.S. National Parks and virtually every State in the United States.

Mary was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin and a former CCD teacher and choir member. She was a member of the Franklin Newcomers Club and the Franklin Cultural Council where she served for six years as treasurer and chairperson. She was also a member of the Friends of the Franklin Library, the Franklin Senior Center, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Franklin Council on Aging and sang with the Franklin Community Chorus and was a very active volunteer with the Franklin Food Pantry.

She was a Rotary International Paul Harris fellow, having contributed to the Rotary Fund for eradicating disease worldwide. Mary and her husband have done extensive genealogy research and established their individual family ancestry.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Suzanne P. Caliguire and her husband Robert of Salisbury Center, New York.

She is also survived by her grandson West Robert Caliguire and granddaughter , Sage Michael Caliguire of Salisbury Center, New York.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law , Maureen Zucks of Longwood, Florida and her nephew, Michael J. Zucks, Niece Kristen E. Zucks Didier of Texas as well as nieces and nephews by marriage and many cousins throughout the United States, Ireland and Canada.

She was the sister of the late James and John Zucks.

Her funeral service will be private with burial in Ascension Cemetery, Monsey, New York.
