Unusual Post-Mortem Meeting Slated for Weds. Afternoon

Analogies there are in abundance....Closing the barn door after the horse has run away? Better late than never?  Whatever the choice, the situation is the same.

The town's Davis-Thayer Reuse Committee, which by its own admission ceased to exist on June 30,  will meet at 4:00PM in the Council Chambers. Why? A citizen asked repeatedly where the meeting minutes were and no one had an answer.

Chaired by Debbie Pellegri with Patrick Sheridan as vice chair and Ted Cormier-Leger as Clerk, the committee was established by the Town Council to evaluate potential strategies and future uses for the Davis Thayer building and parcel of land the building is located on.

Originally, it was chartered to complete its work by Dec. 23, 2023 but that date was later extended to June 30, 2024.

Surprisingly, it seems, minutes were either not kept or not posted during the whole life of the committee. If it hadn’t been for some pointed “citizen” questions during the final meeting, the matter might never have been noted.

Now, however the members of the former committee, which also includes Christopher Stickney, Greg Rondeau, Roberta DeBaggis Trahan, Megan McCarthy, Sam William, and Gwyneth Morss, will gather again Wednesday afternoon at 4pm in the Town Council Chambers to review, presumably amend, and ultimately approve the minutes that have finally found their way onto the printed page in the last few weeks. They will have to do it quickly because the Economic Development committee and then the Town Council are scheduled to use the space immediately after their meeting.

The Secretary of State’s office, contacted Tuesday afternoon, couldn’t come up with an answer as to whether a disbanded committee could create and approve minutes after its dissolution. It’s a conundrum that Wednesday's meeting will presumably address.
