Can't Top That! 100 Foot Steeple Gets Repairs

Image

Members of the Franklin United Methodist Church have been working to maintain and preserve their historic church property with the final stages of a new roof being completed to the steeple, which soars about 100 feet high at 82 West Central -next door to the Franklin Historical Museum. Constructed in 1872, the Victorian Gothic Revival style building is the oldest church in Franklin to operate continuously in its original location.

Listed by the Massachusetts Historical Commission (MACRIS) as architecturally important, it is one of the three original historic buildings on this short block in the center of Franklin.

The new roof funding is part of the Franklin United Methodist Church 2024 Capital Campaign Phase II: Defining Our Generation. More information may be found at FranklinUMC.org

One of the roofing crew noted that his team recently did similar roofing work on the Concord Historical Museum, and also helped to restore the roof, floors and interior of the Scituate Lighthouse.

Of more immediate importance, he noted that the moderate breezes in recent days had made work on the roof 'quite comfortable' despite the high average temperatures!
