Franklin's School Bus Jumble

Image

With Franklin Public Schools starting classes on Wednesday, August 28, most parents probably assumed any kinks in the process of getting kids safely to school would have been worked out by now. But that assumption has been shattered for those receiving a Kafkaesque email communication on Monday, one that hints at a range of problems and illuminates neither causes nor solutions.

RE: FY25 Transportation Update

Dear Franklin Public Schools Community,

Please find information regarding transportation for the 2024-25 school year. The initial registration deadline was June 24th, 2024. This original deadline was extended to July 31st, 2024, to allow more time for families to register. We have been working on assigning as many students as we can, but unfortunately, our buses are already at capacity, and we can no longer accommodate registrations for those specific bus routes.

On July 26th, a Transportation Update
detailing registration and payment information was sent along with a link to our transportation page on the website. On June 26th, an update notifying families of the scheduled fee increases was also shared, which can be found
here.

Please note that Aspen and UniPay are now closed and are not accepting new registrations or payments. If you previously registered for transportation after the deadline and were approved for busing, you have been placed on a waiting list. Our transportation department is reviewing bus counts daily and will contact those families directly if a seat becomes available.

Please refer to the Transportation Page for information on how to request a refund and to access the most up-to-date bus routes. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

For specific inquiries regarding transportation, please email schoolbus@franklinps.net. or contact me directly at the email below.

Sincerely,

Jana Melotti

One frustrated parent wrote to the Observer, “I’m hoping it gets some media attention as it seems they need a little external pressure to get their act together.”

Since the news only got to us hours after school offices closed, further inquiries will have to wait ..
