State primary election voting happens today at Franklin High School Gymnasium, 218 Oak St from 6 am to 8pm and at the Medway Middle School "Old Gym" from 7 am - 8 pm.

Franklin Posts Interceptor Construction Update

Beaver Street Interceptor (BSI) Construction Update for the Week of September 3

Tuesday (9/3) - The construction crew will be working on Grove Street from Rt. 140 south towards the MBTA train tracks between the hours of 7 AM - 4 PM. Grove Street will be open to one-way traffic only from RT. 140 towards Forge Hill Road. Please follow posted detour signs for directions.

Wednesday (9/4) - Friday (9/6) - The construction crew will be working on West Central St between Rt 140 and Forge Pkwy between the hours of 7 AM - 4 PM. West Central St will be closed in both directions. Please follow posted detour signs for directions.

At the Franklin Recreation Center, the construction of the new Beaver Street Interceptor Pump Station will continue with excavation to get the final grade depth for the pump station foundation.

Franklin Vet Coffee Social Wednesday

The next Veterans Coffee Social is Wednesday, September 4, 2024, 10 AM at the Franklin Senior Center. All veterans are invited! Coffee and pastries are provided by Starbucks.

Saturday Trauma Incident in Franklin

Just after 3 pm on Saturday, there was a report of a male victim who had fallen from a ladder at a Pleasant Street address. The victim was transported to the Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center by Franklin Fire Department

Cell Phone Policy Adjusted at Franklin High

According to a report by the Milford Daily News, A cellphone or other electronic device can be used in class if for educational purposes under the direction of a teacher in a new policy at the school. Cellphones can be used outside the building but for all other purposes, office phones must be used.

Serious Injuries in Bellingham Incident

According to multiple reports, a serious accident occurred in Bellingham where emergency crews responded to an explosion that left four people with burn injuries in Friday night. The reported explosion happened at the SavMore Gas Station on South Main Street just after 6:00 p.m.

Medway Muffin House Employee Attacked

According to a Boston 25 report by Franklin-based reporter, Bob Ward, Linda Pierson, who works at the Muffin House, said she was driving along 495 North when a white Honda Civic started to tailgate her. When she tried to get off at an exit the driver of the Honda Civic prevented her from doing that. At that point she says the driver shot at her passenger’s back window. She said she drove straight to the Muffin House and contacted police.

One Reason for Bus Driver Shortages

CBS news in Boston recently reported on individual hit by a new Mass RMV zero-tolerance policy that looks retrospectively at the entire record of commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders. Any infractions have been enough to cause an immediate license suspension with almost no room for appeal. Not only has this terminated the careers of individuals with excellent records in recent years, it has also contributed to shortage of truck and bus drivers. After pushback, the Register has now reportedly backed off for now. The original action happened because the Register had failed to prevent individuals with serious, recent offenses from staying on the road.

Milford Regional Employee Gets Patriot Award

Milford Regional Medical Center’s Security Manager and Hopedale resident Dusan Markovic was recently presented the Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense. Patriot Awards recognize a supervisor’s exceptional efforts to support his or her employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve through measures such as flexible schedules, time off before and after deployments and granting leaves of absence. Markovic was nominated by a member of his Milford Regional security team.

Franklin’s Big Lots Under Threat

Big Lots is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy after years of falling sales according to Bloomberg, if it is not able to find investors. The company has about 1,400 stores across the US, after closing many earlier in 2024.
