Mr. Richard T. ‘Dick’ Farquharson, of N. Billerica, formerly of Franklin and Waltham, died Monday, September 2, 2024 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 92.
Dick was born in Waltham on October 11, 1931, a son of the late Howard and Margaret (Conroy) Farquharson. He had been a lifelong resident before moving to Franklin in 2011 and then to N. Billerica ten years later.
After graduating from Saint Mary’s High School in Waltham Dick joined the United States Navy where he served for four years during the Korean War.
After his discharge from the service he earned a degree in civil engineering at Northeastern University in Boston. For years he worked as the vice-president for Jefferson Construction in Cambridge.
Dick was also a scoutmaster for the Waltham Cub Scouts and former treasurer for Waltham Youth Hockey and the Northeast School PTA. Following the move to Franklin he was a Eucharistic minister at Saint Mary’s Church for ten years. With the arrival of his grandchildren Dick never missed a sporting event, school play or a dance recital.
He leaves his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ (Forster) Farquharson; his children, Richard T. Farquharson, Jr. (Joyce) of Plymouth and Ann M. Donahoe (John) of Jamestown, Rhode Island; his grandchildren, Ashley Almendinger (Brian), Courtney, John, Ryan, Lyndsey and Derek Donahoe, Jack Brennick (Hernan Pinzon) and Robert Brennick (Meaghan); his great-grandchildren, Grace and Ruth Brennick and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Dick’s life by gathering for a morning wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 12th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.
