Rebuttal to Bailey piece
In his submission to the Observer on reforms to the State Police, [Charles] Bailey claimed, without attribution, that I made “calls of ‘Defund the Police’ through the media and the passing of the Massachusetts Police Reform Law….“ That is simply untrue, and I request that you publish this response to correct the record. The background of the bill and reasons for my vote are set forth at https://jeffreyroy.com/2020/07/26/police-reform-bill-passes-house/. There is no mention of defunding police anywhere in the bill or any statements issued by me on it. I demand that my opponent stop lying about my record and that you fact check anything submitted before publishing it.
[Note: The editor agreed with the 'debate in print' parties to publish candidate statements verbatim, without editing.]
