The Columbus Day weekend is a traditional time for New Englanders to enjoy fall foliage, farm stands, apple picking and exploring the country.
A group of museums and historical organizations (including the Franklin Historical Museum) united by their proximity to Mass. State Route 140 are working on ways to encourage the region's residents to skip the stress and hassle of heading to Northern New England and instead explore nearby byways, which have their share of local attractions, restaurants, farm stands, antique emporiums, foliage, scenery -- and museums.
