Principal Amy McDonald shared that McGovern Elementary School students participated in the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School Program’s iWalk event on Wednesday, Oct. 9. iWalk, or International Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day, is celebrated by schools across the state during the first week of October. About 350 students, along with family members, McGovern staff and members of the central office team, gathered at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1526 to participate in the half-mile walk to school. The Medway Police Department also supported students by helping them cross the street and get to school safely.
State Rep. Candidate Shares “no endorsement”
According to State Rep Candidate Charles Bailey, the union representing Franklin Fire Fighters has taken the unusual step of voting to not endorse a candidate for state rep. In recent election, State Rep. Jeff Roy has had the endorsement of the union. Bailey, himself a former firefighter, said he was told that this year there was internal disagreement among the members, resulting in a vote to not provide an endorsement to either candidate.
Franklin Library Continues to Wrestle with Vendor Problems
The vendor providing museum pass and room reservation for the Franklin Public Library is continuing to have problems providing the service. The library request that patrons please be patient and call the library directly at 508-520-4941.
Demolition Request
The Town of Franklin has received a request to demolish the structures at 110 East Central Street. A hearing is expected to be held by the Historical Commission to consider the request, which falls under their jurisdiction due to the age of the structure, before the end of the month, though a date has not yet been finalized.
