Overview
This follows on a public forum held on Oct.24 and precedes the Fall Town meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 12 (due to the Monday holiday). Although the Warrant has not yet been finalized, the proposed project is expected to be put before voters.
Select Board member, Dennis Crowley explained that the entire project is expected to cost $91 million and includes police, fire and town hall in one complex. “The intent is to do this without a debt exclusion or override, contingent on the eventual development of a second battery storage project” in town, expected to generated some $3 million in taxes annually. “If it doesn’t come through we would probably shelve the project,” he said.
Crowley said he hopes voters will make an informed choice by familiarizing themselves with the existing facilities, which are inadequate. He also noted the town is trying to work with the utility, which puts them in a better position to control the development. If they don’t do so, the state will likely push the project forward anyway, but without as much local input, he said
“We are asking for $7.9 million for design work,” he added.
For those who would like to see the facilities for themselves, there have been a number of open house events. The next and final one is at the Fire Department: Sunday, November 3, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
In addition, the Town Hall is open during regular business hours. Monday (7:30 am-5:30 pm), Tues.-Thurs. (7:30 am-4:30 pm), Fri. (7:30 am-12:30 pm).
