Carolyn E. (Clough) Johnson, 96, of Medway, passed away in the presence of family on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the Royal Falmouth Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the beloved wife of Walter J. Johnson, who died in 2021. Born in Medway on June 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Erving and Esther (Saunders) Clough and the sister of the late Robert Clough.
Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Medway, graduating as Valedictorian from Medway High School in 1946. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the former Bridgewater State Teachers College and her Master’s Degree in Education from Framingham State College. Carolyn was a first grade teacher for the town of Medway for 18 years. Prior to that, she taught in Abington for two years, then owned and operated a private kindergarten in Medway until the state mandated public kindergarten for all five-year-olds.
Carolyn was a member of the Medway Community Church for over 70 years and was part of a Bible study fellowship group. She was also a longtime member of Rosalie Rebekah Lodge, serving in a number of capacities. Later, she became President of the Rebekah Assembly of Massachusetts and, in addition, was appointed Marshall of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies. She enjoyed spending time at the Cape, working on word puzzles, and watching sports. In earlier years, she enjoyed her children’s activities and traveling.
She is survived by her children, Kristen Kirby, David Johnson and his wife Kathy, and Steven Johnson and his wife Kelly, all of Falmouth. She was the mother of the late Randall Johnson. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Brendan Kirby, Melissa Healy and her husband Matthew, Ryan Johnson, Alexa Johnson, and Victoria “Tori” Johnson, as well as one great-grandson, Bryce Healy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, December 3 from 10:00 to 11:30 at the Medway Community Church, 196 Main Street in Medway, followed by her funeral service at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.
