More local film viewing options are emerging in Franklin!
Quattro Eroi Lodge, the historic branch of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America has announced that they are hosting a screening of the film "Cabrini," released earlier this year, on Friday, December 6, at 6:00 PM at the Franklin TV studio at 23 Hutchison Street (off of Union, near La Cantina).
The film depicts the life of Catholic missionary Francesca Cabrini, portrayed by Cristiana Dell'Anna, as she encounters resistance to her charity and business efforts in New York City. Cabrini explores the sexism and anti-Italian bigotry faced by Cabrini and others in New York City in the late 19th century
This is a free event and light refreshments will be provided. Everyone is invited. We do ask that you indicate an interest in attending (so we can properly plan for food) by sending an email to quattroeroi@gmail.com.
The film is described on Rotten Tomatoes as follows: From Alejandro Monteverde, award-winning director of "Sound of Freedom", comes the powerful epic of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889 and is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children. Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society's most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.
Quattro Eroi ("Four Heroes"), was established in the 1920s by Franklin's immigrant community for mutual support and betterment and remains a local cultural touchstone. The Lodge name honors the four Italian-American men from Franklin killed during World War I while serving the United State military.
