Joint Budget
Subcommittee -- Handwringing Aplenty

A lengthy Joint Budget Subcommittee in Franklin, held Tuesday night in the Council Chamber, provided many up-to-date budgetary figures, most of which are still subject to change or not final, along with testimony from Town departments indicating that they are generally operating on a barebones basis. Further cuts, various officials said, would be very disruptive, potentially catastrophic or (in the case of the public safety accounts), potentially dangerous. School needs were also much discussed. And while the word override was only rarely heard, it was clearly on the mind of town and school management as well as the elected and appointed officials participating.. The meeting in its entirety can be viewed here. The town is planning an extensive series of informational events in the new year to acquaint the public with the expected multi-million dollar deficit and potential solutions.

From Franklin DPW:
Pine St. Closed Wednesday

Please be advised that Pine Street will be closed to thru traffic on Wednesday, 12/18/24, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The closure will be from Beech Street to Stanwood Drive due to necessary repairs for a service leak at 103 Pine Street. The repair will require the full width of the road.
Water service in the area should remain uninterrupted. However, in the event of an emergency shutdown, residents on Pine Street (Beech to Stanwood), Sunken Meadow Road, and John Edwards Circle may be affected. We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents in the area. The installation of a new water main on Pine Street is a top priority, and we are actively working on securing funding for the project.
