UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center’s Electroencephalogram (EEG) Laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET). Milford Regional is the only EEG lab in Massachusetts, outside of Greater Boston, that has earned this national distinction.
ABRET’s LAB-EEG program evaluates technical standards, laboratory policies and procedures, technologist credentialing and continued education; and audits quality from a year’s worth of test data to ensure the highest standards are being met.
The successful five-year accreditation affirms Milford Regional’s EEG Laboratory has met strict standards and is recognized as a hospital where patients can have confidence in receiving top quality EEG testing.
“This national accreditation distinguishes Milford Regional as a leader in neurodiagnostic testing and affirms our team’s diligence to provide such testing in a setting most comfortable and convenient for our patients,” said UMass Memorial – Milford Regional Neurodiagnostics Program Manager Lindsay Joslyn, MBA, R. EEG T, CLTM, who worked closely on the accreditation process with Chair of the Department of Medicine and Chief of Neurology Dr. Eliezer Sternberg.
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a painless neurodiagnostic test that measures the electrical activity of a patient’s brain, also known as a brain wave test. It is used to diagnose and evaluate a number of conditions including epilepsy, sleep disorders, brain tumors, Alzheimer’s disease, narcolepsy and comas.
“Achieving this accreditation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire neurodiagnostic team at Milford Regional and exemplifies the high professional expectations they set for themselves to provide the best neurodiagnostic care for our patients,” said UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Peter Smulowitz, MD, MPH.
