Sherryl (Crook) Whitcomb,74, died on Monday December 16th, in Wareham, MA following Consecutive strokes over the past two years. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on July 23rd 1950, Sherryl immigrated to the United States with her family in 1954, ultimately settling in Franklin MA in 1964. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, Brian Whitcomb, whom she married following graduation in 1968. She welcomed the first of three Daughters the following year. -“It’s not easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it.” — D o r o t h y , Golden Girls
Sherryl was, first and foremost, a mom. “Like apple pie,” she was sweet and thoughtful- a Homemaker and caregiver throughout her life. Moving to New York, and later Michigan in support of her husband’s career with General Motors, she navigated several cross-country moves, acclimated her family to each new community, occasionally joining her husband during the golden era of business travel, all while raising 3 spirited girls. Uncomfortable with “fuss” or attention, she often took a backseat to big personalities at home. A proper lady raising three tom-boys with the love, anxiety and concern that comes with child-rearing. Returning home to the east coast, Sherryl and Brian retired on Cape Cod in 2008, where she was able to enjoy the things she loved the most. She meticulously decorated their coastal home with lighthouses, shells from their travels, her own cross-stitch pieces and pottery, and photos of their grandchildren. She continued working part-time as a caregiver with Home Instead, engaging with and caring for patients that had few other visitors. Never having met a stranger, she often proudly shared her children and grandchildren’s achievements with cashiers, neighbors, mail carriers, dog walkers, and anyone that showed a mild interest. She enjoyed camping trips with Pa, shopping for a great bargain or “kalooping” and long afternoons spent together on the front porch with their beloved Yorkie, Tink.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Brian Whitcomb of Bourne, MA; her children, Tracy Pultorak of Dearborn, MI, Tricia Whitcomb of Newburyport, MA, and Teri Morton of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law, Mark Pultorak of Dearborn, MI; her sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and Jim O’Book of Chapel Hill, NC; her grandchildren, Morgan, Brendan, Ethan, Allison, Kaitlin, Charlee, Grace and Dean; and her first great-grandchild, Mason, born in October. She was predeceased by: her parents, Thurston and Doreen Crook; her grand-daughter, Hannah Blanchard; and son-in-law, Cory Morton.
