Frozen Pipes, again. It's a familiar problem in Franklin. Late yesterday, a fire sprinkler system above the ceiling of the Senior Center library began spewing water thanks to freeze damage to the pipes. A nearly identical issue nearly two years ago, on Feb. 4, 2023, caused damage throughout much of fhe facility and kept it closed for weeks.
A cursory glance at the four crews from Cannistraro Plumbing, HVAC, and Fire Protection last night, gave the impression that rapid progress was being made and that damage may not have been as severe as in 2023. A town staff member on site wasn't talking....
A Senior Center volunteer said the Senior Center staff had been working all through the cold season to ensure air circulation near the sprinkler pipes, by removing ceiling tiles. But that ad hoc action appears to have been inadequate.
Prior frozen pipe incidents in the past include:
- Severe damage to the former police station, converted to a youth and community center, that was bad enough to lead to the demolition of the building
- Severe damage at Keller-Sullivan School
- Significant damage at the high school
