Mary J. (Lavorante) Pomponio-Principessa, 95, of Franklin, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Born on October 9, 1929, in Norwood, Mary was the daughter of the late Frank and Louise (Carlo) Lavorante.
She was raised and educated in Norwood and graduated in 1950 from Rittner’s School of Floral Design in Boston. In 1963, Mary moved to Franklin to raise her family. She later resided in Dennis Port from 1984 until returning to Franklin in 1999.
Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Gaetano D. Pomponio, with whom she shared twenty years of marriage until his passing in 1972, as well as their two sons, Baby Boy Pomponio and Guy “Spike” D. Pomponio. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Americo J. Principessa, with whom she shared twelve years of marriage until his passing in 1993.
Mary had a varied career that included roles at Frank the Florist in Walpole, General Electric in Boston, Whiting and Davis in Franklin, and Bradlees in Dennis Port before retiring. Even after retirement, she continued working at The Christmas Tree Shop on Cape Cod and US Mesh in North Attleboro. No career compared to her love of cooking for her family, her cheesecakes and love of Lincoln cars.
She is survived by her daughters Debey Shea and her husband Gary of Franklin and Paula Pomponio of New Hampshire. Mary also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Stephen F. Sloan II of Franklin (wife Stephanie) and their three children Stephen III, Rosalie, and Paige; David G.P. Sloan of Uxbridge; Amareeka J. Durham of Franklin (husband Robert) and their two children Gabreyella and Thomas; Melissa Cotnoir of Blackstone (husband Jeff) and their two children Alyson and Tyler; Gary R. Shea of Woonsocket and his two children Kailee of Blackstone and Hayden Bouchard of Millville (wife Erin); Anthony Pomponio and family of New Hampshire; Courtney Pomponio of New Hampshire; Twyla Pomponio of New Hampshire; Nikki Pomponio and family of New Hampshire; and Howie Dumont and family of New Hampshire.
Mary will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass Friday January 31st, in St. Mary's Church 1 Church Square, Franklin at 11AM.
Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
