Minor Mayhem on Franklin Roads Thursday

Multiple events kept first responders busy on Thursday in Franklin. In the "could have been worse" category, there was a collision between a car and an MBTA commuter train at the Grove Street grade crossing (Franklin Police image, above). Fortunately there were no injuries.

A Keolis spokesperson (the firm that operates the trains) stated, earlier this afternoon, a Commuter Rail train was involved in a minor collision with a car that ignored the crossing warning system. The gates were operating as intended at the time. Police have cleared the scene and train service has resumed.Franklin.

Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Barbieri reported that Engine 2, Ambulance 2, and Battalion 1 were dispatched to the area of 20 Grove Street at 3:27pm. There was minor damage and Ambulance 2 obtained two refusals (for transport to a hospital). All Fire Department units cleared the scene by 3:52pm. The Franklin Police Department and MBTA Transit Police remained on scene, he added.

Also having longer impacts was at least one vehicle versus utility pole incident.

A driver hit the telephone pole on Washington Street, knocking out power and Internet. for hours and closing the street.  (Also FPD image)
