Due to the incoming weather, the recycling center will be closed this Sunday, February 9th.
Monday (2/10) through Friday (2/14): The construction crew will be conducting the jack and bore trenchless installation of the new sewer under Rte. 140. The work will be occurring off the road at 38 Pond St. and within the Franklin Village Mall area. No traffic impacts are expected.
At the Franklin Recreation Center, the construction of the new Beaver Street Interceptor Pump Station will continue with removal of formwork, damp proofing of the concrete and backfilling of the structure. Please reference the interactive map and posted signs for details and updates.
MBTA Announces South Coast Rail Service, First Time in 65 Years
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) shared the South Coast Rail passenger service start date. Pending final approval from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), passenger service will begin Monday, March 24, 2025. For the first time in 65 years, the communities of Taunton, Freetown, New Bedford, Middleboro, and Fall River will have passenger rail service.
Auditor DiZoglio Claims $27 mil in Waste in State Medicaid
State Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s Office released an annual report of the recent work conducted by the office’s Medicaid Audit Unit, from March 2, 2024 through February 28, 2025. Over the past year, the State Auditor’s Office released three audit reports on the state’s Medicaid program, known as MassHealth, and its compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and other applicable authoritative guidance. Combined, these three reports identified an estimated $27,259,164 in potential cost savings and provided several recommendations to strengthen internal controls and oversight in MassHealth’s program administration. MassHealth provides access to healthcare services annually to approximately two million eligible children, families, seniors, and people with disabilities, all with low and moderate incomes. In fiscal year 2024, MassHealth program expenditures totaled $20.1 billion, of which approximately 39% was paid by the Commonwealth. Medicaid program expenditures represent approximately 33% of the Commonwealth’s total annual budget.
