The Tokyo Marathon is an annual marathon sporting event, a World Athletics Platinum Label marathon and one of the seven World Marathon Majors.
The latest edition of the race took place on Saturday, March 2, and Julianna Kurtz, a 2004 graduate of Franklin High School, was among the elite group of participants.
Julianna is a daughter of former Franklin veteran’s services officer, Dale Kurtz and his wife Michele. She has been running for about six years ago and quickly turned her interest into a passion when she linked it to a family tragedy. In April, just befoe she graduate from FHS in 2004, her older brother Greg, a 1998 graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy. unexpectedly become gravely ill and died in Albany due to complications of diabetes.
So, she began to run for a cause, diabetes research. Tokyo marked her 6th World Major marathon. All together, she has raised over $40,000 for diabetes research so far and she has no plans to slow down.
