MBTA Zoning

Former "poster child" community for the MBTA zoning law, upscale Lexington, has bolted from the barn. In a recent vote, according to a report in Contrarian Boston, a recent town meeting decisively voted to scale back previously agreed affordable zoning commitments to the bare minimum to keep state lawsuits at bay. There was reportedly raucous cheers when the vote concluded.

Improper PRIM

Contrarian Boston is also reporting that public retirement systems, including PRIM, which serves many public workers in Mass, and the national TIAA, are in big trouble. because they have invested heavily in downtown office buildings. In Boston and other major cities, the pandemic-era move to remote work has devastated demand to the point that a leading  officer tower in Boston just sold for half its asking price from only a few years ago, likely wiping out earnings that were supposed to help retirees.
