The third annual installation of the “Traveling School of Fish” is to be welcomed early June. The display is a refresh from a collection that was placed by the Kabat family with the Town of Franklin in 2014. The Town of Franklin has been instrumental in supporting everything needed for the installation to continue to live at the Sculpture Park.
Artist and community builder, Amy Adams, wanted to pay homage to the original creators and the park design while providing an opportunity for more Franklin students to contribute to public art. The project took on an updated title and is now moved from school to school annually.
Previous years have included the Jefferson Elementary School and The Gerald M. Parmenter Elementary School. With a go between of prepping and installing by Adams, this year, the John F. Kennedy Elementary School has teamed up with Tri County Regional High School who have helped make and donate the new fish to be installed.
The last two years have been especially meaningful since the Parmenter and Kennedy Elementary Schools are scheduled to close at the end of the semester and have both worked with Tri County Regional High School.
“It is significant that the students of these schools be represented in public spaces and feel the support of the community and the leadership of the older students in Franklin. The power of public art in a project with collaborations like this move beyond the canvas and the place it lives. It empowers the voices and young minds to contribute the places they call home no matter what residences or schools they may shift to.”, says Adams.
