Tom Egan, an endangered and missing 75-year-old resident of Castle Road, Medway, was located Tuesday afternoon following an extensive search, according to a news release from the Medway Police.

. At 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, the Medway Police Department responded to a call from a family member who reported that Tom, who has dementia, was missing. With extreme heat, immediate action was essential.

After an unsuccessful initial search, the Medway Fire Department and Medway Police Department Drone Unit were called to the scene, and MetroLEC resources were activated. Officers from Medway set up a mobile perimeter, including an ATV search along the high-tension wires. Before expanding their search areas, the drones immediately searched all known hazards, including ponds and streams.

K9s from Franklin PD and Mansfield PD searched the woods, locating several dropped items, while officers of the Bellingham Police Department searched multiple areas.

MetroLEC Command personnel, Regional Response Search Units, Tactical Bike Patrol Units, Drone Units, and K9s responded and systematically conducted an intensive search of the area. An alert was sent out to all area towns. Units from the Holliston Fire Department assisted with their UTV.

Mr. Egan was eventually located in a wooded area at the rear of a Granite Street residence shortly after 2:00 pm. Medway Fire/EMS treated him at the scene and transported him to the hospital.

The extreme heat made for a difficult search that needed to be executed quickly. As always, our public safety partners performed exceptionally well when called upon, which resulted in a positive outcome.
