Michael Robert Edward Bertone “Skinny”, 63, a lifelong resident of Franklin MA passed away unexpectedly at home, Sunday January 11, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Paula A. (Bonanno) Farnsworth Bertone. The son of Robert and MaryAnn (Bertoni) Bertone born on August 18,1962 in Norwood, MA.

Michael was a devoted husband, father, son, uncle, grandfather, friend and the best big brother to his younger siblings. Known for his unwavering kindness, caring nature, infectious laugh, loyalty, and deep love for family and friends.

A graduate of Franklin High School he went on to own his own business. In addition to his long career as a builder and construction supervisor, in recent years he joined on with Key Boston, now New England Appliance Group.

Michael dedicated his life to a longtime coaching career that started with his involvement in Pop Warner right up through varsity football until just recently retiring. His love for the students and staff was felt by all, and his enthusiasm and devotion to their success will long be remembered by many. He will forever be a Panther.

Michael loved being part of a community. After football, he was thrilled to be accepted into the Divot League. He looked forward to every round of golf because it allowed him to spend every Thursday with what he often referred to as “old home week”. He looked forward to his yearly get-togethers with his high school buddies and fishing trips with his in-laws, his love for Cape Cod and the ocean to name a few. He had so many treasured and lifelong friends that he considered family, there are too many to refer to by name.

Michael opened his home to all expressing his love through hosting, especially his infamous Derby Party. He loved cooking for others whether using his smoker or cooking Italian food.

Michael loved deeply and completely, his greatest joy came from being around his family. He always looked forward to holidays, especially Christmas Eve. In addition to the big moments, Michael treasured and appreciated the endless little moments such as Sundays with his daughter Emily and sharing his love of football with his son Joseph.

Michael shared a deep bond with his wife Paula. So many memories to cherish from their everyday moments to their many new adventures they were inseparable.

Michael will be deeply missed by many. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children Emily Bertone, Joseph Bertone and his partner Hannah; his siblings Marc Bertone and his wife Cathleen, Julianne Perkins and her husband Kurt; his nieces and nephews, Goddaughter Elizabeth “Magpie” Meuse and her husband Joseph, Nicholas Bertone and his partner Echo, Kyle Perkins and Corey Perkins; his step-children Christine Atherton and her husband George, Cory Farnsworth and his wife Halima, Anthony Farnsworth and his wife Crystal, Alicia Farnsworth and her partner Alex; his grandchildren Emily, Joshua, Isabelle, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Anthony, Cora; his sister-in-law Donna Luttrell and her husband Michael, his brother-in-law Danny Bonanno and his partner Irene; and many step nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Saturday January 17th, in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St at 11AM.

Calling hours are Friday Jan. 16th, from 4-8PM at the funeral home.
